Scholarships

A number of scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of ACES are made available through the generous support of alumni and friends of the College. Approximately $1,200,000 in merit-based awards will be awarded in the 2010-2011 academic year in the College. Currently enrolled and newly admitted ACES students will find helpful scholarship information in the five sections noted below.

Jonathan Baldwin Turner (JBT) Scholarships

For Incoming Fall 2010 Freshmen

The Jonathan Baldwin Turner (JBT) Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit to students prior to their freshman year. JBT Scholarships are available for every major and option in the College of ACES and are renewable for all four years. A comprehensive overview of the program is available by clicking on the "Get more information about JBT Scholarships" link below. As noted, a student elected for a JBT Scholarship receives $4,000 for the freshman year, and a commitment for an additional $2,000 for each of their following three years assuming receipt of a 3.40 (A=4.0) grade point average, and continued enrollment in the College of ACES.

The 2010-2011 academic year scholarship application filing period will open in April 2010.
A link to the online scholarship application will be provided here inĀ April; please check back.

College of ACES scholarship awards will be made throughout the summer and into the Fall 2010 semester. Students will be notified through their Illinois email address if they are selected as a recipient of a scholarship or award.

Recipients are selected on the basis of specific criteria and academic merit. Scholarship recipients in most recent years have had a grade-point average above 3.0. (For some scholarships on the listing, students must also have applied for and received eligibility for, need-based aid from: Office of Student Financial Aid, 620 E. John Street, Champaign, IL 61820, phone: 217/333-0100 http://www.odos.uiuc.edu/osfa/)

In completing the scholarship application, the student answers a variety of demographic questions and 3-4 essay questions at the end of the form. Once the student submits the information, a listing of those scholarships for which the student appears to meet the criteria will be identified. The student can also ask to review a description of all the scholarships in the ACES Scholarship Database, and then ask to be considered for one or more from the listing by making a statement as to why the student believes he/she meets the stated criteria.

Departmental Scholarships

Each of the College of ACES departments have scholarships specifically for students enrolled in programs in their unit. A departmental scholarship application must be completed for these awards. Click the appropriate department to review the current listing and to obtain application information.
