College of ACES Student Space

Student Organizations

College of ACES student organizations are designed to further develop academic and career interests in an informal setting. In these organizations, students assume the major responsibility for planning and directing the activities. The College of ACES student organizations include clubs organized around subject-matter specialties, honorary societies, and the College of ACES Student Council. Specific information on a given club may be obtained from the academic unit with which the club is affiliated.

ACE Club: To make students that are interested in agricultural and consumer economics aware of the opportunities available to them and enhance their knowledge of the fields of agribusiness, textile marketing and consumer economics.

ACES Global Ambassadors: Provides a forum for discussion of international agricultural production and practices. AGA feels a need to unite undergraduate and graduate students, along with faculty and staff, from all over the world. Agricultural Education Club: To promote and further Agricultural Education at the University of Illinois and provide social and educational activities for students of agricultural education.

Alpha Epsilon: The mission of the Alpha Epsilon Honor Society is to promote the high ideals of the engineering profession, to give recognition to those agricultural engineers who manifest worthy qualities of character, scholarship, and professional attainment, and to encourage and support such improvements in the Agricultural Engineering profession as will make it an instrument of greater service to mankind.

Alpha Tau Alpha: Alpha Tau Alpha is the professional honorary agricultural education organization here on campus. The purpose of the organization is to promote the highest standards of agricultural education through scholarship and fellowship among members. Major activities include regular professional development filed trips to places like Chicago or Indianapolis, as well as working with both high school students and current professionals in the field in order to build upon and compliment members' studies in the field of agricultural education.

Companion Animals Club: The Companion Animals Club is dedicated to providing educational resources and fun to all animal lovers. At our monthly meetings, guest speakers discuss a wide variety of topics from animal health to animal welfare and rescue. The Companion Animals Club also holds fundraisers to benefit local non-profit organizations and animal shelters.

Field and Furrow: To advance and disseminate knowledge concerning soil and crops; to foster a spirit of cooperation and mutual helpfulness among students in Agronomy; to provide an opportunity for a wider acquaintance with the staff members in Agronomy; to cooperate with other chapters for the furtherance of the Science of Agronomy; to correlate activities in Agronomy with other closely related fields.

Gamma Sigma Delta: Gamma Sigma Delta is the premier honor society in agriculture. It is international in character and has 47 local chapters at universities and colleges offering degrees in agriculture throughout the United States, Honduras, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. Gamma Sigma Delta has the broad objective of encouraging advancement in all branches of the agricultural sciences and human ecology.

Human Interest Professions Club (HIP): Mission Statement: The purpose of HIP Club is to provide students with opportunities to: do volunteer work within the community, enhance leadership skills, and facilitate professional development.

Illini Equestrians: To promote interest in the art of horsemanship and expand knowledge and expertise in the fields of equine management and techniques. Also to provide students, staff, and faculty of the U of I that have an interest in horses to meet and enjoy horse-related activities with others having the same interest. Members given a chance to participate in all aspects of planning and managing horse shows and clinics throughout the year.

Illini Foresters: To represent and advance the interests of students of forestry in student affairs and campus activities; to promote fellowship among forestry student faculty and alumni, and to further the students professional development.

Illini Pork Link: The organization serves as a networking resource for internships and career planning through its various industry friends and supporters that participate in a series of topical seminars in the spring. It also provides opportunities to interact with other students, professors, and industry professionals. Activities include interaction with the Illinois Pork Producers Association during the Pork Expo, involvement with research initiatives, industry field trips, hosting a career fair, and participation in various related pork conferences held in the industry.

Illini Poultry Club: The objective of the Illini Poultry Club is to provide social, academic, and professional events and activities for anyone interested in poultry and other avian species and to provide further knowledge and understanding of poultry science and the poultry industry through these activities.

Illini Pullers: Illini Pullers’ main objective is to design and manufacture a 1/4 scale pulling tractor for the ASABE International Student Design Competition held annually in Peoria, Ill. The competition's purpose is for students to strengthen the knowledge learned in class and apply it in a real world setting, preparing for career successes. As a team member, one can focus on the design and manufacturing aspects, business operations, or both. Students gain invaluable hands-on experience as well as sharpen their time-management and problem-solving skills.

James Scholar Media Team: The ACES James Scholar Media Team is comprised of a group of James Scholars that are interested in photography and writing. Members regularly contribute their articles and photos to the honors newsletter and website. Our meetings during the semester are meant have topics of a scholarly nature, and include speakers from various areas of the College of ACES. Our goal is to develop professional development and networking skills through our writing, photography, and fellowship.

Mini Baja Club: The UIUC Baja SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) team participates in annual competitions involving off-road vehicles. The team designs, builds, tests, and races a one-man off-road vehicle from the ground up. The car is entered in two competitions each year in which it competes against up to 150 international teams. These teams come from universities in the USA, Canada, Korea, Brazil, India, and more. The competition includes a design judging event and numerous dynamic events including acceleration, sled or chain pull, hill climb, maneuverability, and rock crawl. The last part of the competition is a grueling four hour endurance race in which all cars that are still in running condition are let loose on a course ranging from 1.5-2.5 miles in length at the same time. The Baja SAE team is a good way to gain real world experience in the design and fabrication of a purpose built vehicle. We invite all majors (engineering or otherwise) and don’t require any prior experience to come and help out.

Student Advancement Committee: The Student Advancement Committee is a group of undergraduate students who work with the College's Office of Advancement staff to raise funds for College programs, serve as College ambassadors working with alumni groups, and assist with student recruitment efforts. Two of the most widely known activities of SAC include the annual Student Thank-a-Thon and the annual ExplorACES weekend that brings high school juniors and seniors to campus each spring.

Turf Club: The U of I Turf Club was founded in January of 1997 by a group of turf students to provide an opportunity for students to network with peers and professionals in the field, promote turfgrass management as a profession and encourage interaction with other students through educational and social programs. The club has enjoyed a successful first part of the year and anticipates the same for the rest of the year.
